Waste Pick-up Days
Garbage/Trash & Recycling » Wednesday
Yard Waste & Large Items » Thursday
PLEASE NOTE:
All bins should be placed OUT OF SIGHT from the street and your neighbor’s homes on non-collection days and removed from the curb promptly after collection.
Bins, yard waste, and large items should not be placed curbside any earlier than 6pm the night before collection day for that waste type.
Waste collection days may be altered on weeks with holidays, specifically Christmas and Thanksgiving.
Information from Orange County
On January 1, 2016, homeowners in unincorporated Orange County joined many other residents in Florida and across the country who have automated collection service. The new automated collection program provides residents with a more convenient, efficient, and environmentally friendly way to collect and dispose of their garbage and recycling.
Under this new program, homeowners use county-issued roll carts to dispose of garbage and recyclables.
Roll Cart Requests
If you need roll carts delivered to your home, please send an email to Solid.Waste@ocfl.net (include your name, street address, and contact information) or call the Solid Waste Hotline at 407-836-6601.
Collection Schedules
Under this program, garbage, recycling, and yard waste are each picked up once per week. You can access your collection schedule electronically here.
Large Item Pickup
Residents who need to dispose of large items that will not fit in the roll cart must send an email to Solid.Waste@ocfl.net (include your name, street address, contact information, and the item(s) that you want collected) or call the Solid Waste Hotline at 407-836-6601 to arrange for pickup.
- Large items include furniture, appliances, mattresses, automobile tires (limit 4), and rear-projection televisions.
- Limit large items to three cubic yards (about one small pickup truckload) per household per week.
- Large items should be placed at the curb no earlier than 6 p.m. the night before and no later than 6 a.m. on your scheduled collection day.
Using Your Roll Carts
- Place your roll carts at the curb no earlier than 6 p.m. the night before and no later than 6 a.m. on collection day. Put away emptied carts on the same day.
- There should be about three feet of clearance around each cart placed curbside in order for the trucks to use the mechanical arm.
- The carts should be placed away from your mailbox, parked cars, and low-hanging tree limbs.
- The handles should be facing your house, and the arrows on the lid should be pointed toward the street.
Garbage Roll Cart0
Household garbage items, except for those items listed below, may be placed in the roll cart with the green lid. It is recommended that garbage items be bagged and tied first, then placed in the cart. This practice will keep your container cleaner, minimize odors, and reduce the chance of wind-blown litter.
Unaccepted waste includes hot ashes or coals, recyclable items, household hazardous chemicals, medical waste, fluorescent bulbs, tires, paint, and yard waste such as bagged or loose grass, leaves, or small branches.
Recycling Roll Cart
Recycling is required by Orange County Code. All recyclable items may be placed in the roll cart with the blue lid. The following items are acceptable:
- Newspapers and advertisements
- Pasteboard (cereal and shoe boxes, and empty paper towel and toilet paper rolls)
- Paper bags
- Phone books
- Flattened corrugated cardboard boxes
- Magazines and catalogs
- Junk mail
- Office, writing, and note paper
- Metal cans (tin, aluminum, and steel)
- Glass bottles and jars
- Aseptic containers (drink boxes) and gable-top cartons
- Empty aerosol cans
- Plastic bottles and containers labeled #1 – #7
The recycling program can only recycle the material listed above and no other material should go into the recycling cart. Below is a list of materials that are particularly troublesome and should not be placed in the recycling cart:
- No hazardous materials

- No food waste
- No dishes, paper plates, pots, or pans

Yard Waste
Yard waste includes vegetative landscaping material as well as grass, tree, and shrub trimmings, and should not be placed in the garbage or recycling roll cart. Yard waste must be curbside by 6 a.m. on collection day.
- Limit yard waste to three cubic yards (about one small pickup truckload) per household per week.
- Use your own garbage cans or plastic bags for collection. Cans and bags must be 50 gallons or less and weigh less than 60 pounds each when full. Cans must be waterproof with a tight-fitting lid and have handles on the sides.
- Don’t mix yard waste with garbage.
- Bundle limbs, palm fronds, and similar items with string. Keep bundles three feet long or less. Limit weight to less than 60 pounds.
- Live Christmas trees can be set out at the curb on your yard waste collection day for recycling. Trees over six feet should be cut in half. Remove all ornaments, decorations, and stands before placing at the curb. Artificial trees are not collected with yard waste.
Frequently Asked Questions
What should I do with my old recycling bins and garbage cans?
We encourage you to use your garbage cans for yard waste and recycling bins for other household purposes; however, if you do not want to keep them, they can be brought to the Orange County Landfill, Porter Transfer Station, or McLeod Road Transfer Station for recycling.
Can I request a different size cart?
Between April 1, 2016 and May 31, 2016, a one-time size change can be arranged by calling the Solid Waste Hotline at 407-836-6601 or sending an email to Solid.Waste@ocfl.net.
What if I am disabled and cannot take my roll cart to the curb?
Disabled residents who are unable to take their roll carts to the curb may apply to the Solid Waste Division for rear-door service. The driver will collect the carts at an accessible location close to the house, empty them, and then return the carts to the same location. Qualified residents will receive rear-door service at no charge.
What if I want rear-door service but I do not qualify as disabled?
Residents who are not disabled may arrange for rear-door service through their franchise hauler for an additional fee of $13.50 per month. The cost for service may be adjusted annually by the county and must be paid by the customer directly to the franchise hauler.
